About Tom

Tom holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Avila University in Kansas City and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia, specializing in 18th/19th century British literature (Blake studies). After finishing at Mizzou, he volunteered with the US Peace Corps in Mongolia where he taught English as a Foreign Language in Darkhan, Mongolia.

After returning from service in Mongolia with the US Peace Corps in 2010, Tom started working as a freelancer, providing writing and editorial services in fields related to his previous work experiences as a teacher, writer and editor.  Tom also taught at Metropolitan Community College up until 2017, when he switched to full-time self-employment. Tom is skilled in academic, educational, instructional, technical, marketing, sales, and journalistic writing styles.  He also enjoys working with non-native speakers/writers of English.

In addition to freelancing, Tom is a former president and current treasurer for the Board of Directors at Whispering Prairie Press, an independent nonprofit literary press in Kansas City, MO.  WPP produces Kansas City Review, which feature prose, poetry, and fine art.
