I offer a number of services, broadly outlined below. If your need doesn’t neatly fit here, I might still be able to help you, or at least refer you to someone who can.
Proofreading
If your project has zero room for error, you need a professional to find and eliminate potentially embarrassing typos and wrong-word errors. With many years of experience as a professional proofreader, I can plow through large volumes of material and ensure absolute accuracy and grammatical perfection.
Copy Editing
I can take raw material and make it shine. If you need a simple polishing of existing text, or a full-on interpretation of very rough material, bring it to me and I’ll make it fit your needs.
Style Compliance/Formatting
I’ve been implementing styles to text for more than 20 years. If you need to adhere to a specific style guide such as MLA, APA, or CMOS, I can help. If you have an in-house style or a less-popular style that needs to be used, send me the details, and I may be able to help.
Book Development
I’ve helped a number of authors go from an outline or a rough draft to a published book. I can work with traditional publishers and printers as wells as with self-publishing platforms.
Word Wizardry and Interior Layouts
After more than 20 years working with word processors, I can do detailed layout work in Microsoft Word (and other programs, too), even complete book manuscripts. Tired of fighting with a Table of Contents or bamboozled by trying to make an index? I can help.
Research
Is there something you need to know but don’t have the time to find it yourself? Put me on the job. Whether it’s highly technical, hard to find, or outside your expertise, I’ll find the needed information. I’ll even enjoy getting elbow deep in books to get the answers you need.
Writing
In addition to ad writing, I’ve written in a wide range of genres, primarily nonfiction for-hire work ranging from direct mail to educational materials like study guides and book reviews to ghostwriting blog content. I write poems and essays as well, primarily for personal enrichment and growth.
Working with ESL Authors
During my Peace Corps service in Mongolia, I helped my coworkers to polish their writing in English, which helped me develop a strong sense for the intent of even the most confusing text and a knack for identifying the questions that must be asked to make sense of it all. In the time since, I’ve used that skill to great effect, helping authors from around the world get their work into high-quality English-language publications that can transmit their expertise to a worldwide audience.
